Mobility Related Disabilities
More than 6 million people in India have mobility-related disabilities. This restricts them from freely moving around and traveling which, in turn, leaves them with very little options to lead a better life.
Mobility related disability is caused by many factors. Some of them are stated below.
1) Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass in the legs. This is due to the lack of a protein called dystrophin, which is necessary for normal muscle function.
Paralysis is a loss of power in muscles in one or more body parts. It is caused due to damage or trauma in the spinal cord.
3) Cerebral Palsy
It is a group of disorders that affects muscle movement, posture, and balance. It is caused due to damage to the brain when it is developing
4) Spina Bifida
Spina Bifida or ‘cleft spine’ is a defect in the spinal cord where the spine and the spinal cord don’t form properly.
Although these diseases are not treatable, most of these mobility-related impairments can be managed with the help of exoskeletons. GenElek’s exoskeleton works as a mobility aid for them and helps them maintain a normal gait pattern while walking on flat surfaces, slopes, stairs, and even rough paths.
